The Seven Principles (Nguzo Saba)Each night, a candle is lit, often starting with the black one, to focus on a principle, moving outward:

2. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) - Red
3. Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility) - Green
4. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) - Red
5. Nia (Purpose) - Green
6. Kuumba (Creativity) - Red
7. Imani (Faith) - Green 

How They're Used

• Families gather to light one candle each evening, discussing the principle for that day.
• The candles are placed in a special candelabra called a kinara, often wooden and shaped like a menorah.
